Mom...let's have the "S - -" talk

Agggggggggg!!!  Why does this always happen to me!  My son - age 10 - has decided that he is ready for "The Talk".  I will blog on this later - but please feel free to laugh your head off until you hear from me later!  Yeah - laugh now - cause I may be asking advice - you just have no idea!  Me, Lily?  Trying to explain the birds and bees - why in the heck did they ever even call it that in the first place?!  Any explanations?

hhheeeeelllp meeeee............(spoken in a desperate hushed tone)

I had the basic talk when my kids were 7 and added additional talks as the need arose (menstruation, birth control, STD's.) For the basic talk I borrowed a couple of books from the library with cartoon pictures which made it easier to explain. When they got older I also bought each of them a book to answer all the questions they would be too embarrassed to ask. It is REALLY hard, but you will get through it.

ugh! i can only imagine.
i dread the day i have to talk about it to my daughter (who is now 7)....
at least he feels comfortable enough to come to you and talk about it, rather than too shy about coming to you....

there is always a brighter side to everything. ALWAYS!!!!

or you can always give him the plug and outlet talk that my father in law gave to my husband when he was young.

good luck!!!!

Those talks are never easy, but it's better than them getting information from friends. Just be honest and age appropriate and never let them see you sweat. I repeat... NEVER!

Thanks guys!! Lots of good advice -I would probably tell more than he even wanted or needed to know - so I will try my best to take it by small steps. I'll let you guys know if it all goes down tonight! LOL!

Funny but that talk never bothered me...with either of the kids. I guess I am pretty liberal about these things. In any event...just say what feels comfortable to you and believe me he will learn the rest from friends!!

They have "children's" books on this subject. If you do the talk, ask him first what he's "heard" at school about it. His answers might be priceless and very funny...
Either way, good luck with that!

LOL - I am heading out this weekend - kids at their dad's will give me the opportunity to slip around in that section of the store with a hoodie on trying to hide the extremely red face I will have at even reading the most juvenile, simplistic explanations. Thanks!!!! Haha! I will try to update today about our exact conversation when he asked. Priceless is a good description!
